Ever heard some people say that talent is hereditary? Well, that saying has never been better at home than in the case of Randall Cunningham and his daughter Vashti Cunningham!
Randall has been out of football for almost one and a half a decade now. However, his daughter Vashti still continues to represent his family’s “sporty” genes in the sporting world.
On Sunday, the 3rd of July 2016, Vashti shocked all her critics by qualifying for the Rio Olympics in Brazil later in the year. In the women’s qualifiers for high jump, the 18-year old finished second with a mark of six feet. And with that fete, she became the youngest track and field athlete from the U.S. to qualify for the Olympics since the late 1980s!
In addition to this achievement, it is not lost to many that Vashti is the latest sports star to emerge from her bloodline. She is no doubt an able challenger to her rivals in the world of sports. Apart from being the current indoor world champion, the younger Cunningham also holds the world record for the highest jump.
The older Cunningham is also remembered as the youngest player to rush 500 yards and above in three different NFL seasons back in the late 1980s.
AS they say, Like father, like daughter!
