Just recently, the Cleveland Browns announced their selection of four receivers during the 2016 NFL Draft. On Monday 23rd 2016, they made another major announcement: the cutting of ties between the Cleveland, Ohio franchise and their veteran wideout Brian Hartline!
However, this wasn’t entirely unexpected given recent happenings. For instance, the once very talented receiver has struggled to gain separation in the last several seasons. In fact, he had reached a level where he’d become a below-replacement- level wideout on one of the League’s shallowest pass-catching groups.
The 29-year- old had compiled 523 yards on 46 receptions, with 2 touchdowns in 12 matches one season ago -- his only year with the Cleveland Browns.
The veteran wideout could latch on with a club that is looking for a veteran #3 or #4 receiver to round out their depth chart.
For the Browns, getting rid of Hartline effectively creates a clear path for a number of young-blood pass-catchers to get more playtime as the team seeks to totally overhaul their entire downtrodden roster. With youngsters like Corey Coleman, Ricardo Louis, Jordan Payton and Rashard Higgins, as well as veteran Andrew Hawkins, there is no lack of choice in Cleveland. And remember QB Terrelle Pryor still remains the wild-card of this group.
